It’s a busy world out there. You’re rushing here and rushing there - we get it. But will a retreat really help? Surely retreats are just hippy-dippy nonsense that don’t actually have any tangible effects or benefits. Well, if that’s what you think, you’re wrong. Here are three reasons why retreats are important in today’s modern world…

1. It’s an Opportunity to Pull Back
The word ‘retreat’ comes from the Latin verb for ‘to pull back’. So a retreat is an opportunity to ‘pull back’ from all the chaos of your everyday life to really focus on your own health and wellbeing. And that’s something you definitely can’t do when your life is pulling you in a million different directions: work, family, friends, community… the list goes on and on. So you have to ‘retreat’; you have to ‘pull back’. Then – and only then - you get to re-group and re-energize.

Pull Back Tip: Enjoy intuitive healing sessions with holistic wellness practitioner Brigita Roube at Stonefield Villa Resort from November 19 - 28.

2. It’s an Opportunity to Slow Down
The rush of our everyday lives is non-stop. When you’re being pulled in so many different directions, you have to speed up in order to deliver to as many people in your life that you can. There are no opportunities to slow down. A retreat is different; your time is fluid and there is no rush - and that leads to a state of being that breeds inspiration and creativity.

Slow Down Tip: Start each day with a yoga class on this dual-location wellness getaway at Villa Capri and Stonefield Villa Resort on November 5 to 12 with Kathy McAlpine Terpstra and Cathy Wassermann.

3. It’s an Opportunity to Get Inspired
It’s virtually impossible to find inspiration in the mundanity of everyday life. To find true inspiration you need to pull back and slow down (see above!). True inspiration strikes when you look at things from a different perspective. That’s why it’s a good idea to try something new on a retreat, like a mud bath or a cooking class. It fires up the creative juices.

Inspiration Tip: Indulge yourself in cooking classes on this Sky Yoga & Wellness and Tryoga’s retreat on November 2 to 7 at Stonefield Villa Resort.
